SHILLONG: West Jaintia Hills District Administration has said that it is unaware about the reported ostracisation of eighteen women by a village Dorbar in West Jaintia Hills.
As per media reports, some women were ostracised by the Dorbar Shnong Niriang under Thadlaskeiñ Block on December 7, 2019 as a letter of the Dorbar Niriang reportedly signed by the Secretary of the Dorbar Shnong to one of the women saying that the women will not have access to firewood and rice meant for distribution during death in the family and are not allowed to cultivate in the village land.
These women were also barred from taking part in any social activities in the village.
When contacted, the Deputy Commissioner as well as the Superintendent of Police said that they have not received information about the case.
As per media reports, no complaint was lodged yet even as some residents of the village claimed that the women were ostracised for not exercising their franchise.
