GUWAHATI: Former Assam chief minister and veteran Congress leader, Tarun Gogoi has termed the ruling BJP’s mission to retain power with 100 seats in the 2021 Assam Assembly elections as “unrealistic”.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Gogoi said that BJP’s “Mission 100” which they had recently announced, will be a pipe dream as their report card in regard to performance during the ongoing term has been “zero.”

“How can they get 100 seats when nothing has been done in terms of providing employment to 25lakh youths, when six indigenous communities are yet to get Scheduled Tribe status and problems such as erosion, inflation, bad roads, et al, still persist,” he asked.

The senior Congress leader also alleged that by imposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) amid an ongoing movement against the legislation, the BJP has only brought about instability and uncertainty among people in the state.

Gogoi, a three-time chief minister since 2001, also slammed the ruling party for not acting tough on corruption and syndicates.

State minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma had claimed recently that BJP will retain power in Assam with at least 100 of the 126 Assembly seats in the 2021 elections despite protests against the party over CAA.

It may be mentioned that the ruling party has started taking stock of its situation in each of the 126 Assembly constituencies of Assam in view of the anti-CAA movement.
