KOHIMA: Nagaland Minister for Planning and Coordination and Land Revenue Neiba Kronu has informed the state Assembly that the Land Revenue department has drafted the Nagaland Land Laws, which is with the department of Law & Justice for inspection.
Replying in the fifth session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Sunday, to the concerns raised by leader of the Opposition, TR Zeliang on the inability of the people of the state to avail loan by mortgaging land in banks for the SARFAESI Act, the minister said Nagaland is still using the Assam Land Laws of 1876, which was amended in 1978 and 2002.
The minister assured the House that the draft would be tabled in the next Assembly session for consideration.
“We should have our own land laws so that our lands can be mortgaged and after that even if confiscated by the bank it can be sold to only indigenous people,” he said.
He informed that the Land Revenue department has already held several meetings and has drafted the land laws, which is presently under the consideration of Law & Justice department for vetting. (UNI)
