IGNOU holds 33rd convocation in city
SHILLONG: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) held its 33rd convocation for successful examinees of December 2018 and June 2019 exams at MIIT Campus, Brookdene, Dhankheti, on Monday, where Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, was the guest of honour. The Regional Director, Namrata Hagjer, apprised Tynsong of the number of study centres in Meghalaya since 1986, the number of successful examinees in diverse programmes, and about outreach activities like alumni association, regional placement and village adoption. The deputy chief minister also addressed the gathering, and exhorted the students to give back to society the things they have learnt, so that the younger generation can benefit from it.
2-day Pension Adalat concludes today
TURA: The two-day Pension-cum-Provident Fund Adalat organised by the West Garo Hills District Administration, in collaboration with the finance department, will conclude on Tuesday at the DRDA Conference Hall in Tura. The Adalat is being held from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. The purpose of the Adalat is for clearance/settlement of the pending cases of pension matters of retired incumbents and missing credit of GPF subscription of all government employees. All heads of departments/offices have been requested to send their representative to settle the matter in the Adalat.
Training for Para-Legal Volunteers
SHILLONG: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in collaboration with Manbha Foundation recently organised a training programme for Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) with an aim to impart training to Para legal volunteers with regard to their roles and responsibilities. Secretary, DLSA, D Marbaninag, who was the resource person for the programme, spoke on the role and responsibities and functions of the PLVs. Various discussions on governmental developmental schemes, relationship between the public and the police department, NDPS Act, and drug addiction were held during the programme. Noor Khan, Member Secretary, Meghalaya Legal State Services Authority, on the other hand, spoke on the need of education, especially for those who are school dropouts.
