SHILLONG: Music is a language that binds people together and that was exactly realized at the Celebration of World Music Day at Blue Berry Hill, Goa on June 21.
With the theme “Celebrating Together in Harmony” the Music Mania Foundation of Goa brought artistes from around India and gathered at one place to perform and explore different genres of music.
Blue Berry Hill, a venue known for its scenic beauty came ablaze a little behind schedule at 8pm on the day.
The show begun with Goa’s very own rock band, Noxious Ire as the three piece band lit the venue on fire with a set of mixed genre which included both originals and covers for half an hour.
Next to go onstage was Simple Truth who kept the fire burning for thirty minutes.
Simple truth is an upbeat Delhi based band formed by Stanley Waz from Goa and Wolfy from Germany.
The main headlining act of the festival, Abiogenesis from Nagaland was up next. Abiogenesis is a Fusion band from Nagaland, India. Not satisfied with just playing mainstream music and their hunger to take music to a higher level, the band went further into exploration & experimentation which as a result attained Nirvana in the form of a new genre which they have named ‘Howey Music’.
They incorporate a part of the past, blend it with the best of today’s and take it to the future through their music making and giving an eclectic and genre-bending sound.
Howey is a fusion of Naga and other Indian folk with various forms of modern music.
Another unique feature of the band is that they play a new wind musical instrument made of bamboo called Bamhum invented by a band member Moa.
The band’s action-packed shows and positive do-or-die attitude are already getting increasing notice around the globe.
Abiogenesis has performed in 500 plus gigs in four countries: India,Thailand , Bhutan and Myanmar. They have performed for the Royal family at the Indian Embassy, Thimpu, Bhutan on Indian Independence Day 2011..
The Bamhum and Howey Music cast a spell on the crowd for one whole hour with songs from their three Howey albums of the band. The Goans exclaimed that Abiogenesis music was unique and special which they have never heard before and totally different from the pack.
Abiogenesis had earlier performed at the Curtain Raiser at Fidlees, Binaulim one of Goa’s most popular hangout restaurant for musicians on June 20.
The last band to go onstage was Black Slade, a popular Pop/Rock band from New Delhi.
They are said to be Delhi’s heartthrob band who perform a set of popular covers and winded up the festival with a few Konkani (Goan) songs.
