SSA teachers seek salary hike
TURA: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has submitted a memorandum to Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui urging him to look into various issues faced by them. Among others, the teachers urged the minister to enhanced their salaries to at least Rs 45,000. The current salary amount of the teachers is Rs 19,044 for Lower Primary (LP) and Rs 20,493 for Upper Primary (UP) Schools. The teachers also sought the release of their salaries in their individual bank accounts in place of the current school’s joint account. They wanted the change as they have to pay transportation charge from their salaries while using the school’s joint account. Besides, they added that there are other deductions from the school’s joint account like for Mid-Day Meal fund, maintenance grant fund, Teaching Learning Material fund, etc. In addition, the teachers also demanded the provincialisation of all SSA school teachers in the state, release of pending arrears of 2016-17 PAB and equal pay for all SSA UP Fourth Teachers.
Section 144 imposed in Langrin
MAWKYRWAT: With the Langrin MDC bye-election to be conducted on February 28 and the Model Code of Conduct being operational since February 17, the District Magistrate of South West Khasi Hills District, Isawanda Laloo has imposed Section 144 CrPC throughout the 26-Langrin District Council Constituency.
Training on Census concludes
TURA: A two-day district level training for Principal Census Officers, district Census Officers, Charge Officers and other officers of South West Garo Hills for the Census of India 2021 and updation of National Population Register was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Ampati, which concluded on Thursday.
NEHU, IIT Guwahati sign MoU
SHILLONG: An MoU was signed between North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati to fulfil various objectives beside academic support to NEHU. Prof. SK Srivastava, Vice-Chancellor, NEHU who is also a member of the board of governors, IIT, Guwahati, informed that the MOU was signed between NEHU and IIT. The MOU will enable NEHU faculty and students to explore possibilities of pursuing their masters and doctoral programmes at IITG on full-time basis as per existing IITG norms. Further, the MOU would facilitate co-operation for development of new areas of research and development (R&D) at NEHU.
Disaster preparedness drill in Sohra
SHILLONG: With a view to strengthen emergency preparedness and response procedures in hospitals in times of disasters, the office of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills, in collaboration with office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards and Sohra CHC, conducted a one-day mock drill on the Sohra CHC premises on Wednesday by simulating an earthquake. Staff of CHC Sohra, SDO (C) office, Sohra, Police and Fire departments among others participated in the drill.
Programme on space & technology
SHILLONG: The North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Department of Space, Government of India, Umiam, will organise the Vikram Sarabhai Centenary celebration programme on February 25 and 26. Students from different schools of Meghalaya can visit and experience the vibrant and enriching programme on space technology & its applications on February 26 from 10 am to 4 pm. PLN Raju, Director of NESAC informed that there will be exhibitions of ISRO launch vehicles & satellite models, display boards & video shows on space related activities and technology demonstration of basic rocketry & science and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle flights.
Youth health festival
TURA: The department of District Health Society, South Garo Hills Baghmara, organised a Youth Health Festival at the District Indoor Stadium, Baghmara in South Garo Hills on Thursday. South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner HB Marak, who was the chief guest, informed the gathering about youths being the nation builder of the society and said that about 27 per cent of the Indian population is youths. He said it was important to prepare themselves for their future life and to have a visionary and positive lifestyle which can only bring revolutionary changes to their life and the district as a whole.
