Students’ body holds CEC general election

SHILLONG: Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) president Lambokstarwell Marngar, who retained the post in the general election to constitute the new central executive council (CEC), said that the union will follow up on the need to resolve the inter-state boundary dispute with Assam. It may be mentioned that Donald V Thabah also retained the post of general secretary in the election.
“We would impress upon the state government to take measures to resolve the long-pending inter-state boundary dispute,” Marngar said. He said that the group would also address the issue affecting student community.
Altogether, 97.7 per cent turnout was recorded in the general election and altogether 450 units of the KSU, which comprised ten electors from each unit, participated in the general election of the students’ body.
A total of 4,400 out of 4500 eligible electors cast their votes. Online voting was held for the first time, which was cast by KSU members of Delhi unit and Dehradun unit.
Both the units registered 100 per cent voting as all the ten electors from each unit cast their votes.
Former organising secretary, Biangbor Paliar, was elected as vice president, uncontested. A total of 27 candidates were in the race for various posts including the three posts elected without any contest.
The KSU president said that the union would also follow up with the government to implement the much-needed education policy at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Readyon Stone Nongrum became the assistant general secretary of the KSU while Ostarnic Marbaniang was elected as the organising secretary.
Raymond Kharjana will be the education secretary and Pynshaiborlang Rani will be the publicity secretary of the union. Lastly, the office secretary will be Spaindarsing Lyngkhoi.
