SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has condemned the Ichamati attack and offered their condolences to the members of the bereaved family. They also wished recovery of all injured and affected by the communal clash.
In a statement, the MPYC appealed to everyone to maintain peace, harmony and safety of all the people. ‘’Violence is not a solution to any problem. The people, particularly the youth, should unite to show the way for a more caring and equal country. Those who truly love their country would not want it to be divided by hate, fear and violence,’’ the statement said.
The MPYC also criticised the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) saying that it is dividing the nation on communal lines.
‘‘The Centre needs to understand India and its people and stop imposing their political will upon us. We have been warning that the implication of the Act opens up to an unprecedented dangerous future and ramifications. The implication of the Act is not just for a particular community, but it is vastly inter-sectional.’’
Blaming the Centre, MPYC said the nation has never seen the level of communal disharmony and hatred that is seen today across the country.
The current mayhem has the potential to escalate into a full civil war and a huge humanitarian crisis, warned MPYC.
The Youth Congress also demanded the repeal of CAA and appealed the people of the state to be united and protest in one voice against the Act.
NSUI concerned over effect on exams
National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Meghalaya has urged the state to be vigilant and efficient in tackling the law and order situation in the state to ensure a smooth functioning of the upcoming board exams.
The student body also questioned the preparedness of the state in tackling coronavirus.
