No local cabs till March 31
SHILLONG: Local taxis in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region will not ferry passengers from March 24 to March 31 although the cabs will be available for only medical emergencies in the absence of ambulances.
The general secretary of East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association, Wandonbok Jyrwa, said that sick people and their attendants can call the association on 8131936889 in case transportation to hospitals is required.
Jyrwa informed that the decision was taken following a meeting convened by Commissioner of Transport, IW Ingty. Cabbies from West Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, who could not attend the meeting due to restrictions on inter-district travel, have also agreed to follow suit.
“If any commercial vehicle is ferrying sick people then the drivers should turn on the hazard light or the “double signal”. Drivers should also conduct a check-up to be sure of their own health”, he said.
He also fervently appealed to the drivers to not ferry more than three passengers in emergency situation.

Help for stranded residents
Shillong: The Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Political Department has requested residents of the state who have decided to stay in their respective place of work, institute, hostel etc, and also those stranded en route to the state to share their particulars including contact numbers and complete address to the dedicated WhatsApp number 94363-37807.

No restriction on LPG delivery
Shillong: The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate in a notification issued on Monday exempted delivery of LPG cylinders from the purview of the prohibitory order issued under Section 144 CrPC.
The prohibitory order is also not applicable to the security forces and medical teams on duty, pharmacies and all essential services including health services, MeECL, PHE, PWD, police and armed forces, fire and emergency services, Food and Civil Supplies, Shillong Municipal Board, Telecom, Telegraph & IT services, banks and ATMs. Vehicles carrying essential goods, security forces, medical equipments and goods vehicles including print and electronic media are also exempted.

Online services exempted
SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has informed that online delivery services, courier services and online food takeout services are exempted for the period between 10 pm of March 23 to 5 am of March 26.
