TURA: In response to a justification made by the Rajabala MLA, Azad Zaman, with regard to the demand for a new district in West Garo Hills, the Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) asserted that all the justification brought forth by the MLA are unjustified and uncalled for at this juncture when the whole world as well as the state is fighting against the pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19).
The organisation slammed the MLA for stating that he represents the people of Selsella, Demdema and Tikrikilla as there are different legislators who are concerned with those areas.
While, stating that the demand for a new district for a single constituency is unwarranted, the AHAM informed that it has already urged the state government to create a new district at Dadenggre.
The AHAM has urged that the state government to come up with skill development programme for the people of Garo Hills so that they are not deprived of their livelihood.
Also, it has suggested that an administrative unit should be set up in Garobadha as the location can address the geopolitical administrative problems of the area.
The organisation has also demanded that the NPR and NRC be implemented in the areas like Wadagokgre and Rajabala while stating that it will meet the Ministry of Home Affairs in this regard.
