SHILLONG: The Garo Students Union (GSU), Khasi Hills Zone, Shillong, has opposed the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stating that the move may have serious repercussions.
The GSU said that some of the people, especially the daily wage workers, will run out of food in the coming days as they would not be able get works and provide for their families.
It also said that food and essential items should be provided through PDS as early as possible, especially to the remote districts such as South West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills, etc. Handouts in the form of cash should also be afforded to the people who are in need in the state, the union added.
