SHILLONG: BJP leader Bernard Marak said that the imposition of curfew in the state has confused the public.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered lockdown in order to control the spread of COVID-19, but the imposition of curfew has confused the public,” he said.
Since the prime minister did not order curfew, the BJP leader said, the administration should focus on lockdown, awareness and in providing all necessary equipment to the medical team in the state with the help of the government.
“The imposition of curfew has hurt the sentiments of the public and deprived the poor which has compelled us to raise this issue because people are of the impression that the BJP has ordered the curfew whereas it is not true. BJP ordered lockdown not curfew,” Bernard said.
The BJP leader also said that the party will closely monitor and ensure that the benefit of the schemes approved by the Centre reaches the public during the lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
He also appealed to the district administrations to focus on awareness, especially in local dialect in the rural areas. “Awareness will be more effective than imposing curfew. There are reports of assaults in the state which should be avoided during the lockdown,” he said.
While maintaining that the poor should not be deprived during these trying times, he said that benefits should reach the needy benefit irrespective of caste, creed, faith, race and religion.
