SHILLONG: The state BJP and the A’chik Youth’s Movement for the Betterment of the Society (AYMBS) have called on the state government to release the pending salaries of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) employees.
“BJP has eight MDCs in the NPP-led Executive Committee, who wants 24 crore released by BJP government through NITI Aayog for the payment of 6 month’s pending salaries to the Council Employees,” BJP spokesperson, Bernard N Marak, said in a statement on Monday.
“Recently, a major amount funded by BJP government has been transferred to the GHADC account but NPP-led Executive Committee in spite of making assurance to employees, did not discuss the salary matter with the BJP MDCs,” Marak added.
In view of the ongoing lockdown, Marak rued that Council employees are deprived in every way.
“In the Centre, BJP government is taking major steps to feed the poor and sustain the underprivileged during lockdown through various schemes but Council employees are deprived in every way because they neither fall under job card nor under BPL,” Marak said.
The AYMBS, on the other hand, expressed discontent over salary deprivation, especially at a time when the country is fighting coronavirus outbreak.
“At this time, when the nation is under shutdown, they’re deprived of salary, which is a basic need for everyone to run their families. They’re completely helpless because the shops that were giving credits to the employees has stop giving them from the last few days due to the shortage of essential commodities in their areas,” the AYMBS said.
