SHILLONG: The double laning of the 165-metre-long British era bridge at Dawki is all set to be further delayed as the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway has asked the State Government to float new E-tenders.
Sources from the PWD on Saturday said, “We had floated the tender but the Ministry wants us to float E-tenders for the project.
Earlier, a local contractor along with a firm had shown interest to take up the job, but the firm had quoted huge amount for the work which was not approved by the Ministry.
According to sources, the department will float the E-tender within this month to ensure that the bridge is renovated at the earliest.
The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway has sanctioned Rs 23 crore for double-laning of the bridge.
The bridge assumes significance in view of the fact that it connects Dawki with neighbouring Bangladesh.
The PWD is also implementing the much-awaited double-laning work on NH 40 stretch from Langkyrdem – Dawki (till bridge) which is expected to be completed by March next year.
The work on NH 40 stretch from Langkyrdem – Dawki began way back in October-November, 2010.
The initial estimated cost of the 23-kilometer road project was Rs 43 crore, which was later revised to Rs 53 crore, adding the project was approved by Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway.
