JOWAI: An angry mob reportedly torched a truck and assaulted its driver after the vehicle ran over a 70-year old man, identified as Olwis Siangshai at Wapungskur on Sunday evening.
Sources informed that Siangshai was coming from the church when the truck hit him, killing the old man on the spot. Ladrymbai Police later shifted the body to Khliehriat CHC for postmortem.
According to sources the truck driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, tried to drive away immediately after hitting the person but angry mob chased and allegedly assaulted the driver. The truck, which was set on fire, was partially damaged.
