City volunteers provide meals, essentials

SHILLONG: In the wake of the lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak, several groups and individuals in the city have come forward to help the poor and needy by giving away essentials or providing free meals. One of the many acts of kindness, the city has been witnessing continuously, was also seen on Saturday where around 647 people in the city were fed.
The AdventuRers comprising of Khalid Khan, Ooma Tewari Tariang, Susuki Pariat, Osheen T Tariang, Akash Kariwala, Suresh Singh, Kailash Varma, Manbor Singh Warjri and Rakesh Puri with the support of Delhi Mistan Bhandar distributed khichdi to about 269 persons at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium while 14 women and 10 caretakers were also provided meals at the basketball field near the stadium.
Seventy seven young men were also provided food at a school near ISBT along with 157 men at the Fashion Institute. One hundred twenty men, women and children were also given meals at the Narsingh Akhara.
The volunteers thanked the District Administration, SSI N Nonseij, In-Charge Pasterr Thana and DSP PD Sangma.
Meanwhile, a social worker, Michael Kharsynriew, on Saturday distributed food packets to the shop owners who had lined up from 6 in the morning for procuring essentials to sell in their respective village.
