TURA: A day after a resident of Rajabala’s tribal dominated village urged district authorities to clamp down on illegal entry of Assam traders into the area to trade in arecanut, a village nokma and headman has filed a police complaint alleging a similar violation.
The village headman of Gime New model village (Rongmatchok), a hill village in Phulbari region of the plain belt of West Garo Hills filed a police FIR after his village defense party team intercepted two Mahindra pick up mini trucks shortly after midnight of Friday.
The two Tura registered vehicles had entered the village to pick up arecanut produce in the dead of night to avoid detection when the VDP patrol party spotted the vehicles and seized it.
“We are aware of the spread of the coronavirus and doing everything in our power to try and avoid contamination. But the movement and entry of outsiders into our village to indulge in trade at such a time of crisis is extremely worrying. There is a possibility of infection if people are allowed to move freely despite the lock down being in place,” stated Nokma Nenin B Marak.
In his police complaint he has urged upon authorities to book the owners of the two confiscated vehicles for violating the government lockdown and endangering the lives of others.
