SHILLONG: With the lockdown affecting everyone in the state, the poor especially seem to be at the receiving end with little or no food. However, despite the bad weather, many organisation and individuals have been working relentlessly to make sure no one goes hungry. BSF Meghalaya Frontier has been putting all efforts to help civilians along the international border during the lockdown.
The BSF Battalions in the state are distributing free ration, face masks and sanitizers to the needy people residing in far flung areas. Portable water was also provided to the villagers through BSF water tankers.
BSF troops took necessary precautions while distributing food by wearing gloves, face masks and sanitizers, at the same time educating civil population about COVID-19 and its precautions.
BSF Battalions are also assisting civil administration and NGOs in relief work by ensuring social distancing with the aim to contain the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, Geetali, a socio cultural organisation in Laban has extended help to stranded labourers and destitutes of Pynthorumkhrah and Demseiniong by offering sweets and a day’s lunch on Saturday in collaboration with the Shillong Bengalee Association. Around 700 people were made beneficiaries on Saturday.
The Shillong Muslim Union recently distributed free ration to more than 600 poor families irrespective of caste, creed and faith through the various Dorbar Shnongs and also contributed Rs 1 lakh to the CM’s relief fund.
The Rotary Club of Shillong lead by its district governor, Debashish Das and president David Umdor, donated and distributed 20 packets of edible commodities to 20 economically challenged families residing in Dorbar Langkyrding Lumshyiap in the presence of the Dorbar officials.
