SHILLONG: Ad-hoc Upper Primary school teachers under the banner of Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association (MUPSTA) on Wednesday staged a day-long demonstration near Raj Bhawan demanding a reasonable salary for the 84 Ad-hoc Upper Primary school teachers.

The teachers demanded upgradation to the deficit system, alleging that they were getting a mere salary of Rs 6000 while the deficit teachers were drawing salaries varying from Rs 15000 to Rs 25000.

The teachers are also demanding implementation of pension and medical benefits for the ad-hoc teachers and hike in salaries of Hindi subject teachers to bring it on par with the salaries drawn by other assistant teachers.

The agitating teachers wanted to meet Education Minister Prof. RC Laloo but since he was out of station, the teachers met the Director of Elementary Education instead.

“We have been asked to come on July 20 again. We will wait till that date after which we will be compelled to call for agitations,” MUPSTA general secretary Kenneth Shadap said after the meeting.
