NONGPOH: The eight activists of Confederation of Ri Bhoi People (CoRP) who were arrested from NH-40 along Lad Umroi area under Umiam Police Station on Thursday night for burning tyres and placing them in the middle of the road and blocking the road with boulders were released on Friday afternoon.
A senior police official said that they were released after signing a bond at Umiam Police Station and with a direction that they have to come and sign once a week for one month.
The eight activists were identified as CoRP Eastern Zone President Bandari Ryntathiang (26) of Umroi Nongrah, Ferlystone Teron (21) of Mawlasnai, Kabius Lyngdoh Nongbet (35) of Nongrim Nongladew Umroi, Sustlangwell Nongrang (30) of Mawpun Umroi, Robert Nongpoh (27) of Mawbri, Balan Jalang (30) and Fernado Syngkli (20) both hailing from Nongrim Nongladew Umroi.
CoRP Vice President Friday Jalong has expressed gratitude to the HNYF, FKGJP and KSU for supporting the night road blockade called by them and to the general public as well.
Jalong told The Shillong Times over phone that they will be holding a meeting on Saturday to chalk further course of actions as to pressurize the State Government for resolving the border dispute immediately.
