127 under home-quarantine in WKH after visiting hospital

NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Hills district administration on Thursday informed that as many as 127 persons from the district in contact with Bethany Hospital since March 22 have been identified and are under home-quarantine. The identified persons were either secondary or tertiary contacts of Dr. John L Sailo Ryntathiang, who passed away due to COVID-19 on Wednesday.
The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, T Lyngwa, said that the health condition of those under home-quarantine in the district will be monitored.
Inquiring about the health facilities at Nongstoin Civil Hospital, Dr. J Kharkongor, Medical Superintendent of Nongstoin Civil Hospital, said that the health department has taken all measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
She informed that a Corona Care Centre was set up near Civil Hospital with 30 beds.
“We have also prepared 10 beds for those patients whose reports will we awaited after testing. Besides that, another 10 beds were set up for patients with serious condition,” said Kharkongor.
She said that medical equipment like post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), BiPAP, SMEAR, etc., were available in the hospital except for ventilators, which the hospital is yet to receive.
“If there is a case, the hospital needs some doctors to coordinate with them. As of now, we still have less number of nurses and other helpers, however, the state has assured to send some more staff to the hospital,” she said.
