‘People’s panel against COVID not formed by govt’

SHILLONG: The member secretary of Meghalaya People’s Action Committee against COVID 19 (MPAAC), Meena Kharkongor said that MPAAC is not a government committee as has been deliberately alleged or misunderstood in certain quarters. It is a committee of concerned citizens from different fields.
In a statement issued here, the former chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meena Kharkongor said that a lot of study and information has been gathered through all the members who have the knowledge in their respective areas of work as well as experts from all fields within and outside the state to enable them to provide tangible and workable suggestions to the state government as well to educate people about the nature of this pandemic.
She said that MPAAC welcomes any valuable suggestions, involvement and information from people of all walks of lives to help the state collectively fight the pandemic.
Kharkongor informed that the chairman of the committee, DD Lapang is also very much concerned with the quantum of seriousness and gravity of the present situation created by COVID 19 situation.
She said that during this time of isolation all consultations and decisions were done by mobile phone calls and communications on Whatsapp.
