Shillong locality faces hardship

SHILLONG: Khliehshnong, a locality in Malki, has over 80 per cent households that are still poor in comparison to other localities in Malki.
Malki is a picturesque place in Shillong with 8 localities in total.
“There are 62 families that do not have ration cards. Most of the females are domestic workers and the males are daily-wage labourers,” the locality head of Khliehshnong, Wanlam Marbaniang, said.
“Help to the families in terms of food is being provided. There are some people who do make contributions also,” he added.
Asked, Marbaniang said that the daily-wage labourers have registered with the government to avail the amount of Rs 1,000 but they have not received anything yet.
On the way to Khliehshnong, the road is lined with trees on both sides of the road with signboards that read ‘plastic-free zone’.
Meanwhile, the locality head of Lum Balang, Morgan Nongbri said that the signboards were the initiative of the local church.
There are a total of 110 households and the people are getting their daily needs while people manage the sanitisers and masks.
