SHILLONG: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday asked the BSF and border residents to work hand in hand to ensure that there is no infiltration from Bangladesh where the situation due to COVID-19 is a matter of “concern.”
He, however, said the border with the neighbouring country has been sealed and as of now there is no problem. “But the state will not lower the guard and be very vigilant”, he said.
Speaking to media persons here, Rymbui said that the Centre, state government, BSF and border residents were working together to keep the villages safe.
He said that in a recent meeting among the state DGP, Additional Chief Secretary, Home and IG BSF, it was decided that the local police would work in tandem with the border residents and BSF to ensure that nobody from across the border enters Meghalaya. He also said the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, has also issued strict instructions to the state and the BSF and, accordingly, all precautionary measures along the international border are being taken.
He informed there are two positive cases in Bangladesh just across the border and the border villagers are aware of it and understand that nobody from the country should be allowed to enter the state.
At least 110 people have died in Bangladesh from the disease while the number of cases is over 3,000.
