Shillong: The Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC) together with the FKJGP on Monday has decided to conduct surprise raids at Iewduh in the days to come to track those traders who are running their businesses without valid trading licenses.

The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KHADC, who met a delegation of the FKJGP on Monday, has stated that he will hold an emergent meeting with the Syiem of Hima Mylliem to discuss the matter.

“The CEM has assured that they will conduct surprise checking at Iewduh in the presence of the Chief of Hima Mylliem,” FKJGP working president Joe Marwein told reporters here on Monday.

“As per KHADC laws, non-tribals cannot pursue their business within the jurisdiction of the Council if the same business is being run by local tribals,” he added.

The FKJGP has expressed their disappointment over the protection given by the tribals to the non-tribals whenever the Federation had conducted surprise checking of trading license at Iewduh in the past.

“Many a time, our own people would come forward claiming that they are the owners of the shops or spouse of the owner, who is a non-tribal, and this is very disheartening”, the FKJGP working president said.

The FKJGP has urged the KHADC to intervene into the matter immediately to protect the locals from being overshadowed by non-tribals.
