After The Shillong Times highlighted the plight of the residents of Wahingdoh Block 5-C, who commute through the footpath from Ramakrishna Mission LP School, Umsohsun towards Wahingdoh Block C, through the news item titled, ‘Administration indifferent; local residents bear the brunt’ the authorities started demolition work of the existing retaining wall of Sadar Police Reserve Quarters. However, after the demolition, which was the only work carried out, the condition of the footpath is turning from bad to worse due to the discontinuance of work for more than two months now. Meanwhile, the rampant dumping of waste/garbage, open discharge of human waste, lack of proper sewage and drainage system and the presence of temporary sheds have become even more prevalent. The picture above shows a garbage slide that occurred on Monday, posing potential health hazards to the passers-by. (Photo contributed by a resident of Wahingdoh)
