Lightning strike kills man in GH

TURA: A villager from Gambegre area of West Garo Hills district was killed on the spot when lightning struck during a thunderstorm late Wednesday afternoon.
This is the first casualty from lightning strike in the Garo Hills region, this year.
According to villagers, the 45-year-old victim, identified as Pillar G Momin of Rejanggre village near Bolchugre in Gambegre block, had gone over to his neighbour’s house to help with the construction of a toilet when tragedy struck.
While they were engaged in the construction work a thunderstorm occurred around 2 O’clock in the afternoon.
A powerful bolt of lightning struck the vicinity of the construction site killing Pillar Momin on the spot.
The impact from the lightning strike was so powerful that it left a mark on the compound floor.
The annual pre-monsoon season is usually a time of intense thunderstorms accompanied with hail and lightning. Each year such thunderstorms cause extensive damage to homes and standing crops and more importantly takes the lives of people through lightning strikes.
