JOWAI: Employees of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on Wednesday took everyone by surprise by organising a protest against the Thombor Shiwat- led Executive Committee for not paying their salaries for seven months.
The JHADC CEM had issued an order earlier stating that 30 per cent of the employees should attend the office from Wednesday. The staff, however, arrived on the JHADC premises and began their protest.
They also decided not to attend to their official duties till their salary was cleared.
The surprise protest forced the district police chief, Lakador Syiem, to rush to the spot with a police team. The SP requested the agitators not to resort to mass gathering due to the ongoing lockdown following which the crowd dispersed.
