SHILLONG: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) state youth wing president, Thomas Passah suggested that the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma should utilise the MLA local area development scheme of Rs 2 crore to help poor families.

In a statement issued here, Passah said that the scheme of Rs 2 crore should be routed through the respective Deputy Commissioners of the 11 districts to ensure there is no partiality.

He came up with the suggestion as he observed that daily wage labourers were struggling to make ends meet during the COVID-19 crisis.

Passah said that many daily wage labourers had applied for government assistance for Rs 1000 and Rs 700 but their applications were rejected. He has appealed to the government to look into the matter.
