TURA: In view of the reported cases of pigs infected by African Swine Fever or ASF in Assam and with a view to prevent any spread of the disease in Garo Hills region, the Rapid Response Team (RRT) of the West Garo Hills Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department conducted an awareness and sensitisation programme with regard to the disease on Wednesday. It was held in various villages of Rongram, Dalu and Gambegre blocks including market development committees in Tura.
People were informed that the ASF killed more than 2,500 pigs in 306 villages in Assam. While sensitising people about the dangers of the disease, they were assured that it has no relation at all with COVID-19, adding that it is the first incidence of the disease in the country.
