Meritorious students feted

Shillong: The All Meghalaya Assamese Association (AMAA) felicitated nineteen meritorious students who came out with flying colours at the SSLC and HSSLC examination, 2011 at a felicitation programme held on Assam Club premises here on Sunday. The AMAA awarded cash prize to Amal Kalita, the topper in the HSSLC examination, (Science stream) along with other four position holders. Two octogenarian citizens-Brihat ch Das and Hema Lata Sikdar were also felicitated at the function.The meeting, which was presided over by Dr MM Baruah, was attended by advocate Hasibuddin Ahmed and a renowned artist, Giyanada Kakati as chief guest and guest of honour. In a separate function, the Pay For Right Youth & Cultural Club, Malki, felicitated 51 meritorious students of Malki for their achievements in the different examinations in 2011 and 11 retired teachers from Malki on Saturday at Shillong Law College hall. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong lauded the efforts of the organization to recognise the achievements of meritorious students and efforts of the retired teachers.He distributed the cash awards and achievement awards to all the 51 meritorious students. The retired teachers were felicitated with cash and a shawl.
