SHILLONG/TURA: The breakaway faction of the Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) has called for a 12 -hour bandh on Tuesday in Garo Hills in protest against the cold blooded murder of three persons including a school teacher Denybirth G Momin allegedly by the GNLA militants.
The rebels gunned down the trio, accusing them of being police spies, in two different areas in the insurgency-ravaged East Garo Hills district.
Four armed GNLA rebels barged into the residence of Denybirth G Momin in Resubelpara on Thursday night before killing him.
Condemning the killing of the trio, a senior cadre of the ANVC (B) said the bandh would be effective from 5 am to 5 pm.
Meanwhile, the NCP has also condemned the cold blooded murder of three innocent persons.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the party spokesperson James Sangma said the Mukul Sangma-led Government has failed once again to provide basic security to its citizens
The NCP demanded payment compensation to the families of the deceased.
GNLA denies involvement in teacher’s murder: Meanwhile, faced with mass public anger against the killing of an innocent school teacher in Resubelpara, the GNLA is now trying to make amends by denying its involvement in the killing.
The area commander of West Khasi Hills, Savio Marak, claimed in a press statement that the killers belonged to a breakaway faction who had abandoned the outfit some months ago.
He claimed that the letter pad left behind at the site of the killing of science teacher Denybirth G Momin was a ‘fake’ and was being used by one Salleng M Sangma who had left the outfit with former area commander Rimpu Sangma who was arrested in Guwahati.
“We do not kill school teachers and we had never placed any demand on Denybirth Momin,” claimed Savio Marak.
Police sources, however, claimed that the GNLA was directly involved in the murder of Denybirth G Momin.
