SHILLONG: Acting upon the Centre’s guideline that allows movement of the migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places across the country amid the nationwide lockdown, the Shillong Manipuri Students’ Union (SMSU) on Monday sent back 152 stranded students and families from different parts of Shillong via bus to Imphal.
“The Union has arranged hand sanitisers and drinking water bottles for all the students and the families including the bus driver and the conductor. We have also requested the government officials of Manipur to arrange proper screening, testing and quarantine facilities with proper norms and procedures identified by the Government of India for all the individuals to prevent the state from getting affected from COVID-19,” the SMSU said in a statement.
Expressing discontentment over decisions taken during a cabinet meeting held by the Manipur government recently with regard to the plight of stranded living outside the state, the union has called for monetary aid, so that the students, who are stranded outside the state, do not have to bear the expenses by themselves.
