SHILLONG: The Ka sur u paidbah ka bri u Hynniewtrep or the voice of U Hynniewtrep has alleged that local vehicles were prevented from transporting vegetables to the city and stopped at Lad Smit on Monday whereas vehicles from Assam were allowed to bring in goods into the state.
The organisation also said that the state government should be strict in enforcing the curfew and lockdown measures especially in the unfenced areas in the borders.
The local body asked the government to arrange supply of locally produced vegetables through the Agriculture department to tide over the short supply of essentials.
The organisation also said that the land owners should be considerate towards their tenants with regard to payment of rent. It also requested the government to permit reopening of steel fabrication workshops to ease the problems of daily wage earners.
It also sought adequate security at quarantine centres housing women to prevent miscreants from taking advantage of the situation.
It further urged the district administration to address the hike in price of essential commodities.
