All-faith meet
The Shillong Nagarik Manch (Citizens Forum) will hold an all faith meeting with all concerned citizens and students at Opera Hall on July 24 at 5.30 pm in memory of young scientist Pritam Bhattacharjee of Assam, who was brutally murdered in Bhagalpur by anti-social elements while travelling by train to Delhi recently. This will be followed by a silent march of citizens to Khandyilad junction for lighting of candles. A number of organizations and educational institutions are expected to participate in the prayer meet & candle light vigil.
Contraband seized
The BSF sleuths in West Khasi Hills district on Sunday seized two Kg of contraband (hemp) worth Rs 6 thousand while it was being smuggled into Bangladesh. Earlier on three occasions in the month of July, BSF troops of Meghalaya Frontier seized 132 bottles of liquor meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
Red Cross
Seng Khasi Higher Secondary School, Jaiaw inaugurated the Junior Red Cross infirmary of the School on July 20 .The chief guest for the occasion was Lt Col Bajpai, secretary JRC,State branch. The hoisting of the Red Cross flag and a pledge taking ceremony was held.
Awareness prog
The NSS Shillong College unit is conducting a special camp at Smit village from July 22 till 28. A medical camp and an agriculture awareness programme for farmers will also be organized on July 24 and 25 respectively.
New office bearers
The Dorbar Shnong Cleve Colony has elected new office bearers for the year 2012-2014 with KL Tariang as the Rangbah Shnong, Jerry Khyriem and Wadley Jones Nongrum as the assistant Rangbah Shnong, KK Syiem as the general secretary, L Buhphang as the assistant general secretary, Frankie Pariat as the treasurer and other executive members.
Prayer meeting
The Gour Nitai Sangha will organize on Ashtaprahar Kirtan (prayer meeting) at Laban Namghar on July 27 at 6pm, on July 28 at 4pm and on July 29 up to 1pm.
Competition
The Astronautical society of India will organize the national space science competition-2012 at St Anthony’s higher secondary school on July 26 from 9am till 12 noon.
