SHILLONG: Sarathi, a city-based organisation, has been coming forward to render aid to the needy, who have been the worst-affected due to the lockdown.
Sarathi, which translates to ‘charioteer’, comprises of 25 members from different walks of life.
After the lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the organisation started tracking needy families by appointing their members across the city as area heads. “Till date, we have been able to provide 151 households with rations,” a statement from Sarathi said.
“Project ‘A Bowl’, a Sarathi initiative, was also launched encouraging households and our members to sensibly donate whatever they want to, with donations ranging from kitchen articles to foodstuffs,” the statement added.
The organisation said that its members also work in tandem with organisations such as Manbha Foundation, Lamjingshai, etc., to locate families in need of help. “In our endeavours, we aspire to maintain transparency and accountability,” the statement said.
“We also serve treats whenever possible to our frontline workers, especially the traffic and police personnel on duty as a token of appreciation,” it added.
