KSU complaints of over pricing of commodities in EJH

SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Jaintia Hills (EJH) has warned shopkeepers not to charge more than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on all commodities and stated that violation of the order will entail penalty under legal provisions.

This was told by the DC to the members of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Khliehriat Circle, who met the DC to apprise him of the activities of the wholesalers and retailers who are taking advantage of the situation and exploiting the buyers.

In a statement issued here, the chairman of Consumer Cell, Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Khliehriat Circle, Pynshai Kupar Dkhar said that the president S.S. Niangti and general secretary, Cherity D. Suja of Khliehriat Circle met the DC to apprise him of the plight faced by buyers who have bear the brunt of the rising prices.

The DC has assured that he will follow up on the hike of prices of essential commodities resorted to by wholesalers and retailers and also assured to direct shopkeepers to display price list in front of their shops.
