DC reviews preparation as more people set to arrive in SWKH

MAWKYRWAT: The Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, on Friday, took stock of the situation at Ranikor Civil Sub-Division as a large number of returnees are expected to arrive in the district with most of them hailing from Ranikor.
The deputy commissioner stressed on the need to closely monitor all the returnees and ensure they strictly adhere to home quarantine.
Meanwhile, Ranikor Sub-Divisional Officer HS Diengdoh informed that village authorities and volunteers are cooperating with the office of the SDO to see that all requirements of the quarantined persons are met and there is no stigmatisation.
The deputy commissioner has also written to the Commandant of 11 Battalion of BSF, Mawpat, and 170 Battalion, Tura to exercise maximum vigilance along the borders to prevent movement.
Further, in consultation with and approval of the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, a checkpoint at Lad Bagli has been set up for screening and monitoring of inter-district movement.
With regard to reports of non-compliance with distancing norm at Balat Market, Laloo said that people should be made more aware about the disease and the ways to prevent themselves from being infected, which would require a consultative process involving all stakeholders.
Later, the deputy commissioner along with other district officials inspected the quarantine centre in Ranikor area.
