GUWAHATI: Ten militants belonging to National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB-S) and Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), who are in the custody of Assam Police, have been put on quarantine after proper medical check-up on their arrival here, police sources said on Saturday.

The ten are among the 22 insurgents handed over by the Myanmar government to the Centre. Twelve of the insurgents are from four outfits from Manipur – UNLF, PREPAK (Pro), KYKL and PLA.

Among the five NDFB-S militants are Rajen Daimary alias D Rebgon, 35; Sansuma Basumatary alias Sarontsai, 28; Gagaram Basumatary alias Captain Gamsha, 20; Surju Brahmo alias Brammo Swrjisula, 27 and Sukuram Brahma, 21. The KLO cadres have been identified as Bhajan Barman alias Tiger Koch, 27; Bishnu Roy alias Bishwa Singha Koch, 25; Jitendra Roy alias Mangal Koch, 32; Dhono Roy alias Sgt. Bahadur, 28 and Shankar Deb Barman alias Silukar, 20.

“The insurgents were handed over to Assam Police on Friday. On arrival they were subjected to proper medical check-up and currently all of them are under quarantine,” police sources here informed.

The 22 insurgents are being brought back to the country from Myanmar by a special plane.

The handing over of the insurgents by Myanmar Army on Friday is part of the united operations carried out by India and Myanmar against the separatist outfits in the neighbouring country.

Almost all the insurgent outfits from Northeast India, including ULFA, operate training camps in Upper Myanmar, especially in the Kachin Province.

In February last year, the Myanmar Army had carried out a series of operations against the Indian insurgent outfits in Kachin, and destroyed over a dozen training camps.
