SHILLONG: An appeal has been made to the Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills to take action against a chowkidar of a government school in Zikzag.
In a letter to the DC, the Garo Students’ Union Western Zone (South) Ampati has alleged that a series of thefts have occurred at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Secondary School in Zikzag since the caretaker, Bablu Mahanta, has refused to perform his duties.
According to the union, Mahanta, the caretaker of the school buildings and hostels, refused to stay in the school quarter.
Police report stated that on April 18 and May 9, the school computers, ceiling fans, teachers’ documents among others were robbed by miscreants while hostellers and teachers were away due to the lockdown.
The union also said there was no chowkidar when the theft took place.
‘If there was a chowkidar in the school premises, such incident might not have taken place. His negligence of duty has led to this incident at the residential school,’ the union said.
‘We request you to look into this matter and take immediate action and suspend the chowkidar. We hope that you would be kind enough to respond to us in this matter,’ said the letter to the DC.
