SHILLONG: A constable of Meghalaya Police who was attached with Bhutan Embassy, killed himself in New Delhi on Monday night.

Confirming this, state Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui said that the constable identified as Panat Sangma, allegedly hanged himself to death.

“Investigation is on and the family members have been informed about the incident,” Rymbui said.

Reacting to a query about many police personnel from the state who are deployed outside and kill themselves, he said that it was the duty of the state and the department to take care of all the police personnel.

“From time to time, we keep on giving them counselling, but we cannot rule out that the personnel killed himself due to something which is not related to work,” he said.

He also suggested that any police personnel who have grievances must air it before the higher authorities.
