SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has written to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, to test people for COVID-19 along the state’s border with Bangladesh and closely monitor cross-border movement.
In the letter, the union’s general secretary, Donald Thabah, asked the chief minister to take precautionary measures in view of the pandemic.
Thabah mentioned that there is some movement of people from both sides of the border leading to their intermingling.
The union also extended its support to the request of Mawsynram MLA, HM Shangpliang, to conduct tests on residents not only in his constituency but also in every village along the border.
Thabah said that testing the residents could help to contain the outbreak in the border villages which would ultimately prevent its spread to other parts of the state.
He also assured that the KSU stands with the government during the crisis.
It may be mentioned that Shangpliang recently raised an alarm as a COVID-19 positive case was detected in Dhormopur, Bangladesh which is just about 500 metres away from Ryngku Bazaar in Mawsynram constituency.
