Guwahati: Seven more columns of Army were deployed on Friday, in violence-hit areas under Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam to arrest further spread of violence as well as to bring the situation under control.

A defence source here informed that as requested by Deputy Commissioner, Baksa district in the BTC to deploy Army columns in aid to civil authorities to control the clashes s in district, Army mobilised seven more columns from the headquerter of 21 Mountain Division and deployed the men at Saudarbhita, Sarbhog, Mushalpur, Tihu, Damdama, Kumarikata and Goreswar.

There were sporadic incidents reported from far flung corners of Baksa district. Three villages were burnt down in the district on Thursday night.

Already 13 columns of Army personnel have remained deployed in violence-hit areas since last two days.

The Army has also established two medical camps at Kokrajhar for each of the communities affected by the violence. Medicines for these medical camps are being provided by the Army as well as district administrations.

These medical camps are always established as part of follow up action once the Army columns have brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, Assam government has claimed to have provided adequate relief materials in all the relief camps besides taking confidence building measures to remove mistrust between the two communities – Bodos and religious minorities – affected by the spell of violence.
