SHILLONG: The Shillong Chamber Choir with its unique repertoire of songs, that ranges from classical to pop and more, enthralled the audience in Silver Spring, Maryland in the US recently.
The Goodwill Concert co-sponsored by the Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters (FASS) International (USA) was a great success. Attended by around 250 people, the concert was inaugurated by Indian Ambassador to USA Nirupama Rao and was attended by India American Leadership Council. The concert was hosted by Michael Rathnam, Shan Fanwar , Dr.Kamala Edwards and Vijay Pandit.
The internationally acclaimed Shillong Chamber Choir team consisting of 18 members is on a visit to the USA. Earlier, the choir delivered a commanding performance at the finale of the 7th World Choir Games 2012 in Cincinnati on July 14th. The visiting SCC group is headed by its director Ike Sinha and the founder Neil Nongkynrih.
Friends of Assam Seven Sisters (FASS) also worked with the India Embassy and many other key business men from NE in the USA, to host few other performances in the nation’s capital, Washington DC.
It may be mentioned that the SCC was among the 19 choirs chosen to represent India in the World Choir Games which witnessed participation of 82 countries and 400 Choirs from around the world.
