COVID cases rise in Nagaland, Manipur

GUWAHATI: Nagaland and Manipur on Wednesday reported five more COVID-19 positive cases each, as several hundreds of stranded citizens from outside the Northeast make their way to the states.

“Another five more returnees from Chennai tested COVID-19 positive this morning. Four were detected COVID-19 positive in Dimapur and one from Kohima. With this, we have nine active cases in Nagaland,” Nagaland health and family welfare minister, S. Pangnyu Phom informed on Wednesday.

“As on Wednesday, six patients are undergoing proper treatment at District Hospital, Dimapur, two in Kohima and one at District Hospital, Tuensang,” Phom said.

Meanwhile, of the five cases reported in Manipur on Wednesday, three persons were detected COVID positive in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) while two were detected in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), additional director and spokesperson for Manipur health department, Khoirom S Mangang, informed in a statement issued on Wednesday evening.

Manipur now has a total of 44 COVID-19 positive cases and 40 active cases.

“As many as 603 COVID tests were conducted on Wednesday, with 403 tests conducted at RIMS while 200 were done at the lab in JNIMS. The state has conducted 6834 tests so far,” Mangang said.

Currently, 10,293 persons are in community quarantine while 3746 persons are in institutional quarantine centres.
