TURA: Accusing the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) of hegemony the Garo Student’s Union Central Executive Committee (GSU CEC) has come down heavily on the Commission for allegedly flouting the State’s Job Reservation Policy time and again.
The GSU in a communiqué stated that only four Garo candidates out of many had been called for interview for the 60 posts of JDA in the Accounts and Treasury department to be held on August 18. The GSU maintained that the invitation of the four Garo candidates meant that only seven per cent job reservation was being given to the Garo community categorised as scheduled tribes in the Indian Constitution as opposed to the State’s Job Reservation Policy which clearly states that 40 per cent of the vacancies should be reserved for Garos.
Stating that the MPSC must strictly adhere to the State’s Job Reservation Policy to the letter, the GSU CEC has demanded that the examination be conducted again failing which the GSU will stage agitation for the “betterment of the Garo society”. “We will unite against the arbitrary functioning and hegemony of the present MPSC body,” the GSU stated adding that the norms of any department was not a precedent to the reservation policy which ensures entitlement to employment to the indigenous people of the State.
