Demand for ILP before allowing migrant workers anew

SHILLONGAmidst the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19, the demand to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) has resurfaced to haunt the state as an organization, Ka Sur u Paidbah ka Bri u Hynniewtrep demanded to have ILP in place before allowing migrant worker to work in the state.

The chairman of the organization, HS Shylla said that ILP is a must before bringing in migrant workers.

“We demand ILP. Although we are facing the trouble with the COVID-19 pandemic but it is also a blessing in disguise as most of the migrant workers have left. From now onwards, there has to be stringent measures to properly check documents. If the state government does not come up with monitoring measures, it should not bring in any migrant worker”, he said.

Observing that 50 per cent of the migrant workers have left the state, he said that the state government should ensure to implement the ILP and then only can consider bringing in migrant workers.
