SHILLONG/NONGPOH: Police have informed that the occupants of a vehicle detected by KSU Umsning circle at Umran petrol pump, were on their way to Silchar, Assam.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the police said the residents from Uttar Pradesh had only halted at the pump for refuelling purpose and it was during this time that members of the unit intercepted them.
It was in the intervening night of June 1 that the Ri-Bhoi police received information that a Force Traveller bearing registration (UP-11-AT-8425,) was detected by the members of the KSU.
It was formed that it was a transit vehicle and screening as well as documentation were done by the district administration at the Temperature Screening Centre at 13th Mile.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), GK Iangrai said that entry of individuals or vehicles into the state without any valid pass or documents is prohibited and screening of individuals or vehicles are being done at the designated screening centres.
Earlier, the leaders of KSU Umsning Circle and FKJGP Umsning Circle had alleged that the detected persons were not refuelling their vehicles as the petrol pump was closed but instead they were sleeping and some of them were seen roaming thereby putting at risk the lives of the people of the district and the state as a whole.
The pressure group also said that the occupants of the vehicle did not have face masks or sanitisers, which is a clear violation of the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner.
Another violation is that the vehicle did not maintain the government’s notification for utilising only 50% seating capacity. It was a small bus but there were 16 passengers.
The president of KSU, North Khasi Hills, Ferdynald Kharkamni and general secretary of FKJGP, Luistar Lyngdoh have condemned the incident and also alleged that the clarification of the police was wrong and baseless as their members have videos and photos to prove that the particular vehicle was not refuelling but instead it had some hidden agenda, which according to them will have a serious impact on the people of the state in the context of COVID-19.
