Lafarge lends help to fight COVID-19

SHILLONG: Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited (LUMPL) has donated Rs 10 lakh towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to fight the pandemic.
The Operations Director of LUMP, Narayan Sharma, handed over the cheque to the chief minister.
Besides, the employees of LUMPL have also donated their one day’s salary for the distribution of essential commodities to the households of Shella and Nongtrai villages.
LUMPL has also contributed a substantial amount as donation towards COVID relief for the two communities which along with the employee’s contribution has benefitted more than 500 households in Shella and 330 households in Nongtrai that were left economically vulnerable by the COVID-19 induced lockdown.
LUMPL has extensively worked to ensure protection of the communities against COVID-19 throughout the lockdown period by carrying out poster campaign in local language in both villages to sensitise the communities on the dangers of COVID -19.
It has also provided personal protective equipment to ASHA workers and ensured availability of medicine at the Shella PHC and the dispensary at Nongtrai.
Hand washing units were also installed at Shella with the support of the SWWO and disinfection of both the villages were undertaken.
Moreover, LUMPL also partnered with Nangkiewshaphrang SHG, women weaver group of Nongtrai Village, to help produce and distribute more than 1000 face masks to all the residents in Nongtrai. More than 200 homemade face masks were also distributed in Shella, wherein a few employees of LUMPL pooled in resources.
