SHILLONG: Ri Bhoi police on Thursday seized 100 sacks of dry areca nut from two buses passing through the state.
Police informed that they received information about illegal transportation of areca nut and set up a check post at Lumdiengan in Ri Bhoi was activated and at around 1:30 pm they intercepted the two buses — AS01 GC 3886 and AS19 C 0074 — travelling from Silchar to Guwahati and recovered the areca nut which was being transported without any valid document. Both the buses were detained and the areca nut sacks were seized.
However, one of the buses carrying passengers was allowed to proceed to its destination.
